The City of Austin needed a new website that reflected its tech-forward reputation and better served its citizens. Steel Advertising, led by then City Manager Marc Ott and CCO Doug Matthers, was tasked with not only redesigning the site but also creating a full online branding strategy. This involved audience research, internal feedback sessions, and brand strategy sessions with city officials. Steel Advertising developed archetypes, a positioning statement, tone and manner guidelines, brand pillars, and a new name, logo, and URL.
The rebranded website received overwhelming approval, with a 90% approval rating on Bang the Table. Government Technology News also recognized the site as “Best in Nation,” showcasing Steel Advertising’s success in delivering a user-friendly, modern website.
